Hidden in a sheltered canyon near the Húsafell estate in west Iceland, these intimate geothermal baths (Giljaböð) hold just a handful of guests at a time, fed by a nearby hot spring and reached on a short guided walk through the highland scenery.

What to expect

Two stone pools at a gentle bathing heat, set into the canyon with a stream running alongside. Group sizes are kept small, so the mood is calm and private. A guide leads you in, shares the story of the place, and lets you settle into the quiet.

Getting there

From Húsafell, around two hours from Reykjavik through Borgarfjörður, a short transfer and gentle walk bring you to the baths.

Best time to visit

Year round on a guided visit. The hush of the canyon is at its best in the soft light of morning or evening.
